Premium Domain Names Auction Process
KeNIC is currently running a Second Level Domains auction, which started on 01 November 2021 to 06 December 2021.
The auction platform has two (2) selling options: – The Buy Now and Bid Option.
The 2 selling options have different procedures before one secures their domain(s).
Each procedure is explained in details below.
- a) THE BID OPTION PROCEDURE
For a client to be able to access this option, they are supposed to deposit some funds which will later be used as an inclusive fund if they emerge as the winner. Below are steps to be followed by the client on this procedure:
Step 1: Visit https://auction.kenic.or.ke/ on your browser
Step 2: Create your Account by signing Up
Step 3: Receive 2 Step Verification Code (2FA) notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 4: Sign into your account
Step 5: Receive successful sign in notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 6: Deposit USD 200 minimum Registration fee into your account through Afripay
Step 7: Receive successful deposit notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 8: Select the domain name(s) you want to bid for from the Premium list on the platform
Step 9: Start biding with USD 1,300.00 or amount above USD 1,300.00
Step 10: Receive successful bid notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 11: Receive notification on Status of your bid in case there is another bid higher than your initial bid
Step 12: Place a higher bid by adding USD 10.00 on top of the higher bid that exceeded your initial one
Step 13: Receive successful bid top up notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 14: Receive WINNER notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected] in case you are the highest bidder.
Step 15: Pay the highest winning amount to Afripay account (inclusive of minimum USD 200.00 registration fee) and exclusive of USD 25.00 SLD registration price
Step 16: Select a Registrar of your choice from the Registrar list provided on the platform that you want to host your domain with.
Step 17: Share the Registrar name through [email protected] indicating your wish to transfer the domain to the Registrar
Step 18: KeNIC admin will share an EPP Code and initiate the transfer
Step 19: Receive successful transfer notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 20: Have your active domain within 72 hours
- b) SLD BUY NOW PROCEDURE
Unlike the Bid Option, clients here aren’t supposed to pay before they can access this option. Below are steps followed by the client on this procedure:
Step 1: Visit https://auction.kenic.or.ke/ on your browser
Step 2: Create your Account by signing up
Step 3: Receive 2 Step Verification Code (2FA) notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 4: Sign in to your account
Step 5: Receive successful sign in notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 6: Select your preferred domain name(s)
Step 7: Provide your accurate details (WHOIS details)
Step 8: Receive payment details notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 9: Pay USD 30.00 immediately into the KeNIC account through IPay, Mpesa, EFT / Direct Deposit Payment, or Credit Card
Step 10: Receive successful payment notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 11: Receive successful Registration notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 12: Select a Registrar of your choice from the Registrar list provided on the platform that you want to host your domain with.
Step 13: Share the Registrar name through [email protected] indicating your wish to transfer the domain to the Registrar
Step 14: KeNIC admin will share an EPP Code and initiate the transfer
Step 15: Receive successful transfer notification on your email or phone from KeNIC through [email protected]
Step 16: Have your active domain within 72 hours.
