SUMMARY:Universal Acceptance Day Awareness Event 2026: A Successful First Edition for KeNIC
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, 13 May 2026 | USIU-Africa\, Nairobi \nWe successfully hosted the inaugural Universal Acceptance (UA) Day 2026\, bringing together students\, technologists\, policymakers\, and international partners to advance the conversation on an inclusive\, multilingual internet for all. \nThe event was made possible through a $3\,000 sponsorship from ICANN and generous in-kind support from USIU-Africa\, which provided the venue\, faculty participation\, and access to its student community. \nStrong Turnout and Engagement \nThe inaugural UA Day drew substantial interest from across Kenya’s academic and technology ecosystems: \n\nOver 560 unique registrations\, with a further ~56 duplicate sign-ups reflecting strong demand\n300 live participants — 120 on-site at USIU-Africa and 180 joining virtually\nStudents from 17 different institutions\, in addition to the host institution’s own delegates\n222 YouTube views recorded in the days following the event\, extending its reach well beyond the live sessions\n\nDistinguished Speakers and Partners \nUA Day 2026 featured presentations from KeNIC\, ICANN\, UNESCO\, KICTANET\, and the host institution\, USIU-Africa: \n\nAndrew Lewela\, CEO\, KeNIC\nBob Ochieng\, Senior Director\, ICANN\nJune Okal\, ICANN\nJay Ralitera\, UNESCO\, supported by Sylvia Adongo\nNeema Mujasia\, KICTANET\nProf. Patrick Wamuyu\, USIU-Africa\nEmmanuel Mutinda\, Cyber-Security Analyst\, KeNIC\nBrian Anikayi\, System Administrator\, KeNIC\n\nTheir presentations set the tone for a day of rich discussion on Universal Acceptance\, internet governance\, and building a secure\, accessible\, and reliable .KE internet ecosystem. \nNational Media Reach \nThe event received extensive coverage across 10 prominent Kenyan media platforms\, spanning radio\, television\, and print — including Classic FM\, Kiss FM\, East FM\, Radio Jambo\, Homeboyz Radio\, NTV Kenya\, KTN News\, TV47\, The Star\, and Daily Nation. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, 14 August 2026 | Movenpick Hotel\, Westlands\, Nairobi \nKeNIC (Kenya Network Information Centre) brought together its accredited .KE registrars for the 2026 Registrar Engagement Meeting\, a full-day session dedicated to engagement\, knowledge sharing\, and collaboration with the partners who power the growth of the .KE namespace. \nRunning from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, the meeting brought registrars and the KeNIC team together to strengthen collaboration\, align on priorities\, and chart the way forward for the .KE domain ecosystem. \nWhat the Day Covered \nThe engagement was structured around three key objectives: \n\nBriefings and discussions on key initiatives and projects\, including the expected impact of ongoing and upcoming work on the .KE ecosystem\nSensitization and training\, with a focus on the integration and adoption of the .KE App\nBusiness performance updates and partner feedback\, giving registrars a platform to share their experiences and priorities directly with KeNIC\n\nBeyond these core sessions\, the day also opened up broader conversation on opportunities to enhance the growth and adoption of .KE domains\, with registrars contributing ideas and feedback on how KeNIC and its partners can work together more effectively. \nA Valued Partnership \nAccredited registrars are central to the growth of the .KE namespace\, and the meeting was an opportunity for KeNIC to reaffirm its appreciation for their continued partnership and contribution.
