Digital Apprenticeship Programme
Eldohub in partnership with Thunderbird School of Global Management has launched a digital apprenticeship programme to provide practical work experience to Junior Technology Professionals (JTP) as well as expose tech and non-tech businesses to the benefits of their digital expertise. The programme is aimed at equipping young tech professionals with the necessary skills they need for the job market.
The first phase of the project will place 40 Junior Technology Professionals (JTPs) into 40 businesses (traditionally SMEs and tech startups/scale-ups) across Kenya for a three month apprenticeship. In addition to the technical support and training, the JTPS have also been matched to mentors, junior to mid-level tech professionals working in the industry to be “tech buddies” that the JTPS can turn to navigate the soft skills element that include communication, working at an office/virtually and other issues that may arise.
KeNIC is one of the tech organizations that have provided a tech buddy – Joseph Marwa – who is working closely with the Junior Tech Professional for coaching and guidance in soft skills. KeNIC is pleased to be a part of this great multi-stakeholder initiative to create better equipped tech professionals. As many traditional businesses have started experimenting with digital marketing and e-commerce due to COVID-19, we hope to continue playing our part in the transformation of Kenya’s tech and digital space.
