Online learning provides so many positive opportunities for learners and teachers alike, it is more important than ever to strengthen cybersecurity defenses to deal with new and emerging attacks. The following are tips to enhance your cybersecurity:
1.Track your child’s Online activity:
Always monitor your child’s online activity as often as possible. This will help you know who they are constantly chatting with, which sites they are visiting etc.
2. Data Encryption:
Classroom data can be obtained by hackers who may intercept it while being shared. Encryption prevents cyber attackers from stealing the data that you send and receive.
3. Disable Identity and Location:
Disable photo geotagging on your Android or iPhone and remind your child not to share any personal info online like age, school, address, phone number, last name or any personally identifiable data.
4. Adhere to Institution’s Cyber Protocols:
Most learning institutions have already set rules for both learners and teachers to follow with regards to cyber security. It is important to follow the rules and protocols so as to avoid going against any of the breaches that may expose the institution to attacks.
5. Data Back Up:
In case you lose your data through attacks, you will worry less if you had put in place mechanisms to back up your data. This should be a daily routine since you never know when the attackers will strike.
6. Follow Password Management Policy:
Use strong passwords, with a mixture of numbers, letters, upper and lower case and symbols. Avoid using same passwords on various sites.
7. Educate your kids on Passwords and Privacy:
Advise your children never to share any passwords. Take them through lessons on the importance of having stronger passwords.
8. Disable Identity and Location:
Disable photo geotagging on your Android or iPhone and remind your child not to share any personal info online like age, school, address, phone number, last name or any personally identifiable data.
9. Activate Parental Controls:
Many gadgets have the parental control feature nowadays. Create a password and block all the sites or programmes you deem dangerous for your child.
