Nairobi, Kenya – [August 14th 2024] – The Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau, delivered a keynote address on ‘Bridging the Digital Divide and Unleashing the Power of Partnerships’ at the #KenyaInternetSummit2024, organized by Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC).
The address comes at a significant time as the Cabinet Office is leading by example in demonstrating how technology is transforming the nation. Prior to January 31, 2023, Cabinet meetings were conducted manually and paper-heavy. The successful implementation of the e-Cabinet system has since revolutionized operations, significantly enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Cabinet processes.
In her address, Secretary Wanjau emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive digital access for all Kenyans. “Our administration has prioritized the development of a digital superhighway as a key focus among its priority goals,” she stated. “However, we recognize that the government alone cannot achieve these ambitious objectives.”
The Secretary highlighted the indispensable role of the private sector in the country’s digital transformation journey. “Their innovation, investment, and expertise are crucial in bridging gaps in digital access and infrastructure,” she added.
By partnering with industry leaders, tech providers, and entrepreneurs, the government aims to leverage their strengths to accelerate progress and ensure the success of its digital agenda. The Secretary’s address underscores the government’s dedication to building a digitally inclusive Kenya where everyone can benefit from the opportunities and advancements that technology offers.
